Lauren Rottet: 1997 Hall of Fame Inductee

text

Lauren Rottet is one of the most celebrated designers of our generation. With an extraordinary record of awards, publications, lectures, juries and honors over the past 25 years, Lauren has helped shape how we interpret modern design and continues to set the standard for interior design through her interior designs, furniture lines and art curation.

Ms. Rottet is the only woman in history to be recognized as a Fellow Member by both the American Institute of Architects and the International Interior Design Association. She was named Boutique Design Designer of the Year, Interiors Designer of the Year and holds Lifetime Appointment to the U.S. General Services Administration’s National Register of Peer Professionals for Design Excellence. Ms. Rottet is also an inaugural member of the Women in Design Hall of Fame and a member of the Interior Design Hall of Fame.

Rottet’s furniture and product designs have earned four Gold Medals for Best of NeoCon and a Chicago Athenaeum Award. She has produced over 10 furniture lines during the course of her career and to this day her “Shift” collection for Bernhardt and “Attache” collection for Halcon are still their most successful lines of all time.

Ms. Rottet considers art to be an extension of the interior spaces she designs and over the course of her career she has curated impressive collections for her clients, herself and museums. She has a drawing in the permanent collection of The Chicago Art Institute and the contemporary collection she curated for The Surrey Hotel earned her the attention of the nearby Whitney Museum for whom she selects a piece of art each year for The Surrey to purchase and display in the hotel before it is transferred to the Whitney to become part of their permanent collection. Ms. Rottet also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston and is the founder of the Interior Architecture Committee and scholarship fund of AIA Los Angeles.
